Have you ever heard of a common rail or something? This may at first seem weird or puzzling, but it is actually a very integral component of a diesel engine. You probably didn’t know this, but the direction fuel flows into an engine can have a major impact on the engine’s performance. DXM, which stands for direct multiplicative, is a company that produces common rail injectors that solve the problem of poor delivery of fuel to some engines, and the need for better delivery of fuel to the piston.
Before the proliferation of common rail injectors, diesel engines relied on an arrangement known as pump-line-nozzle. " This meant that diesel was pumped from a tank through a network of pipes and then sprayed through a nozzle into the engine. This old system functioned, but it was hardly efficient. It could also be noisy and smelly, which made it less pleasant for drivers and those living nearby.
Let's move on to how common rail diesel engines work. Things get done differently with these injectors. Rather than pumping fuel down a number of individual pipes, there is a single large “common rail” containing all the fuel. This rail fills with fuel, and then the fuel is forced into the engine via various injectors. This system is superior to the old pump-line-nozzle system because the fuel is provided at much higher pressure and much more accurately.
And, one of the big advantages of common rail injectors, is that they reduce the harmful air emitted from a diesel engine. Combustion of diesel fuel produces harmful pollutants that are detrimental to the public health and the environment. But due to common rail injectors, which can pump fuel so accurately, diesel engines can actually burn that fuel a lot cleaner. This means that they emit lower levels of pollutants and are more environmentally friendly.
Common rail injectors also have one great advantage we can consider; they can increase a diesel engine performance. This allows the engine to run more smoothly and efficiently because the fuel is delivered so precisely. Which allows the vehicle to accelerate, power and complete a cycle with less fuel. If you drive a vehicle equipped with common rail injectors, you will often find that the vehicle is more responsive and offers better gas mileage.
You remember when I told you the old pump-line-nozzle system could be noisy and smelly? Well, common rail injectors at least have made diesel engines a little quieter and a little smoother. Because the fuel is dosed more accurately, the engine doesn’t need to work as hard to ignite the fuel. As a result, a quieter ride makes driving more pleasant for you and everyone else.
Modern CRDI (Common Rail Direct Injection) injectors are key components in diesel engine technology. Now, they are being used in various diesel equipment and machinery, like cars, trucks, and heavy equipment. Even though common rail injectors have moved the industry forward, there are still companies like DXM fighting to improve them with every product created. Which is good for all of us, and they are constantly working on improving these systems making diesel engines more powerful and efficient, and less harmful to environment.
